Situation
The Black Health Commission is a non-profit that aims to address health inequities in the Black community and promote Black Joy through community engagement, educational campaigns, and partnership with local organizations. They were looking for a way to better communicate their current programs’ impact to their funders .
Task
Create a framework for measuring impact and communicating that impact with funders, including objectives, impact metrics, and how to track the impact metrics.
Process
Introductory video chat
We started with an hour-long video call to talk through the organization’s mission, programs, and what they needed out of our work together.
background research
I researched Impact Reports and communications from other public health and community-based non-profits to surface best practices.
Impact Report Template
Referencing an OKR (Objectives and Key Results) framework, I drafted an Impact Report Template outlining the mission, programs, and impact metrics for the Black health Commission. The template would be used to share impact updates with funders on an as-needed basis.
Feedback & Iteration
The Executive Director and her team gave feedback through comments in Google doc, and we refined the template to meet the needs of the org.
Outcome
The Black Health Commission now has a clear, results-driven way to track and communicate the impact of their programs to their funders. That improved communication will help BHC secure sustainable funding for the years to come.
From the Partner
“Alexis was a pleasure to work with and she took the time to build KPIs for the Black Health Commission, a start up nonprofit. As a founder, it was extremely important for me to find someone who can quickly build a document I can use to share with stakeholders as I continue to build the organization. I would recommend Alexis to anyone who is looking to build an impact report to share what your organization does to potential funders/supporters.”
